The property on Dutch Point Road where our church is located used to be the farm of Walter and Jennie Kierstead. They were members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Saint John because there wasn't a church in Hampton.
Even though it's been decades since the farm was here, the ground is still quite rich where it used to be, as the grass continues to grow thick and fast.
We decided to put that area to good use with garden plots for our community. When we look at the current price of groceries, they are more expensive than they used to be. So we're providing some space where people from Hampton can grow some extra food for themselves to help offset some of those rising costs.
We've partnered with ADRA Canada, a national organization that helps with development & relief projects across Canada and around the world. Together with ADRA and other community supporters, we hope that you'll find the additional community garden space in Hampton to be helpful.
We're currently getting the raised beds ready with soil and a fence to keep the deer out. Each raised bed is 4'x12', and we have just over 30 available. They should be ready soon!
